This is the final Wednesday night Lent service. Zechariah continue to proclaim that God’s kingdom comes to us through a redeeming refinery flowing from the fountain of Jesus. Augustus Toplady’s hymn, “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me” summaries the only sane response to Zechariah 13:1–“Foul, I to the fountain fly, wash me Savior or I die!”

The Divine Service for the Fifth Sunday in Lent (March 21, 2021). Jesus is a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. What does this mean? Pastor Augustine unpacks the text from Hebrews 5 to answer that question and help us to know that we also belong to a royal priesthood – the priesthood of the baptized – priests in the order of Jesus!

This week’s theme from the Lent series on the book of Zechariah: “First secure your own oxygen mask.” This directive is familiar to anyone who travels on commercial airplanes. This is also Zechariah’s decree for us—today! As we breathe in the oxygen of the Gospel, we can then help others get set up with it, too!

The service for the Fourth Sunday in Lent (March 14, 2021). God’s Word for this Sunday is filled with His grace that lifts us up from the troubles and trials of life, the struggles of body and soul caused by sin. We are lifted up because Christ Jesus was lifted up – on the cross – for you and your salvation. Believe in Him, and you will be delivered from this world of darkness and death to the light and life of Christ!

This week’s theme from the Lent series on the book of Zechariah: Who will take the garbage out? Zechariah knows. In the prophet’s seventh vision, the LORD’s Messenger removes the garbage for all people for all time!

The service for the Third Sunday in Lent (March 7, 2021). The churches in the first century were not so different from ours in the 21^st century. Christians have been described as fools for believing in Jesus. The world pushes wisdom that might make us feel good, but ultimately does not save. Only the foolishness of the cross saves us. The cross reveals the wisdom of God for forgiveness and eternal life. With God’s wisdom in our hearts, we can be fools for Jesus in this life knowing we will be with him for eternity.

This week’s theme as we continue our Lenten journey through the book of Zechariah: Satan accuses Joshua, the High Priest. All seems lost until the LORD’s Messenger appears. Our Lord Jesus Christ silences Satan—for Joshua and for us! 

The Wednesday Lent service after the First Sunday in Lent. On Ash Wednesday, we began a sermon series on the Old Testament prophet Zechariah—Your Kingdom Come. God’s kingdom comes through craftsmen who know that It’s Tool Time!

The service for the Second Sunday in Lent (February 28, 2021). Are you concerned about equality? Our freedoms in this country are a great blessing, though many have had struggles to share in them. Civil rights for women and minorities have been won through proper legislation guided by common sense principles. Sadly, recent legislation lacks common sense and puts the teachings of the Church under tremendous pressure to cave into the ways of the world and Satan’s power. The Christian’s burden on this side of heaven is to hear the Lord’s call to pick up our cross and follow Him. But we do so because God has equally justified all people through the blood of Jesus. We are given true freedom from sin, death, and Satan through God’s action to save us. Thanks be to God!
