Dec 12 – Third Sunday in Advent

The Divine Service for the Third Sunday in Advent (December 12, 2021)

“Rejoice! The Lord Will Save!” – Zephaniah 3:14-20

The pink candle in the Advent wreath is lit today to signify a focus on the joy of preparing for the coming of Jesus. God’s people longed for the Savior. The prophet Zephaniah makes it clear that God will come to save His people. God will rejoice in this saving work that is fulfilled in the birth of Christ Jesus!

Dec 5 – Second Sunday in Advent

The Divine Service for the Second Sunday in Advent (December 5, 2021).

“God Working in You” – Philippians 1:2-11

Through the prophets, God prepared His people for the first advent of Jesus. Through the preaching of Paul, we are prepared for the day of Jesus Christ – His second advent. God begins a good work in us by grace through faith and promises to bring it to completion when Jesus comes again. What a great promise and hope we have in Jesus!

Nov 28 – First Sunday in Advent

The Divine Service for the First Sunday in Advent (November 28, 2021). The Church begins her liturgical new year today. It may seem strange to hear about Palm Sunday as the theme of this day, but it is by design to take us on an Advent journey to the cross with a flashback to the Babe of Bethlehem at Christmas. All this for us sinners to hear and believe that Jesus is the Savior and King of all!

Nov 21 – Last Sunday of the Church Year

The Divine Service for the Last Sunday of the Church Year (Nov 21, 2021). This Sunday is also the final Sunday in the stewardship series of “Growing as Stewards in Faith, Love, and Hope.” Equipped with the Word and promises of God, we are prepared for our Lord’s return. But while we wait, we make the best use of our time, talent, and treasure so that others are also equipped with faith, love, and hope in Christ Jesus. Hope is not wishful thinking, but the spiritual courage the Holy Spirit pours into us to keep us going and growing!

Nov 14 – 25th Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Twenty-fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Nov 14, 2021). We are in the second week of the three-week Stewardship series of “Growing in Faith, Love, and Hope.” The theme for this week is the second item of love. When God pours His love into our hearts, our faith and love grow and prompts us to serve our neighbor with God’s love and care and mercy. We do this because Jesus was prompted by love into action to save us from sin and selfishness to live a fuller, better life in Him!

Nov 7 – All Saints’ Day (Observed)

The Divine Service for the Feast of All Saints’ Day. We observe this special holy day that is assigned to the Church’s calendar for November 1 where we remember those who by faith knew the Lord and honored Him with their lives. No one is perfect, of course. Those we remember in the service (those members who died in the past year) would be the first to admit that. But when we remember those that ran the race of faith, we can remember their example and strive to follow in their footsteps that we, too, might finish the race and receive the crown of righteousness that Jesus has already won for us on the cross.

Oct 31 – Organ Dedication and Recital

Sunday, October 31, 2021 was a joyous day of celebrating the gift of God in music as we rededicated our organ to the glory of God with a recital featuring Mr. Rodney Riese, the son of former Immanuel pastor, Rev. Rodney Riese. The service was recorded and linked below for your viewing a listening pleasure. The video sound is good, but like any instrument, to hear it in person is a richer, fuller experience.

Click here to view/download the service bulletin for the recital (PDF opens in new tab or window)

May God continue to raise up faithful musicians and organists to glorify His name and edify our worship for many years to come! Soli Deo Gloria!

Oct 31 – Reformation Sunday

The Divine Service for Reformation Sunday (October 31, 2021). We also observe the rite of Confirmation at the late service for two youth catechumens. We give thanks to God for providing Martin Luther and for giving him the strength and courage to stand firm in the true faith that set him free. Freed to stand firm and strong in Christ, Luther did just that. In doing so, he showed God’s love to thousands of people. We are also a people blessed by his service. May we also humbly do God’s work in whatever way we can and be faithful to God who has saved us.

Oct 24 – 22nd Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost (October 24, 2021). Pastor John Fuchs, Emeritus, serves up the Word of God from Mark 10 and the account of blind Bartimaeus who sees Jesus as the Son of David, the Savior. Jesus sees him and gives him the eyesight to see what he already knows by faith. May we also trust that Jesus is our Savior who went to the cross for us and opens heavens gates to all who believe!

Oct 17 – Heritage Fest Sunday

The Divine Service for the Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost and Heritage Fest. Do you remember the first time you tried to thread a needle, perhaps as a child? Did you think it was impossible, but then it finally went through? Jesus lays out an absurd possibility of a grown camel threaded through a needle, and that is easier than a rich person’s salvation. It isn’t any easier for the poor or middle class, either. So who can be saved? No one. So God does the impossible for us in Christ Jesus. He is our substitute so that salvation is not only possible, but guaranteed!

Today is Immanuel’s 26th annual heritage fest. Chuck Thiel and the Jolly Ramblers have been providing old time/polka music for a generation and they bring their musical talents to praise God with the style of music that many in rural America with European heritage grew up with.
