Oct 24 – 22nd Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost (October 24, 2021). Pastor John Fuchs, Emeritus, serves up the Word of God from Mark 10 and the account of blind Bartimaeus who sees Jesus as the Son of David, the Savior. Jesus sees him and gives him the eyesight to see what he already knows by faith. May we also trust that Jesus is our Savior who went to the cross for us and opens heavens gates to all who believe!

Oct 17 – Heritage Fest Sunday

The Divine Service for the Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost and Heritage Fest. Do you remember the first time you tried to thread a needle, perhaps as a child? Did you think it was impossible, but then it finally went through? Jesus lays out an absurd possibility of a grown camel threaded through a needle, and that is easier than a rich person’s salvation. It isn’t any easier for the poor or middle class, either. So who can be saved? No one. So God does the impossible for us in Christ Jesus. He is our substitute so that salvation is not only possible, but guaranteed!

Today is Immanuel’s 26th annual heritage fest. Chuck Thiel and the Jolly Ramblers have been providing old time/polka music for a generation and they bring their musical talents to praise God with the style of music that many in rural America with European heritage grew up with.

Oct 10 – 20th Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost. Caring for one another is sometimes easier said than done. But as Christians, we are called to do this because we all share in Christ, and we want the whole body to be working well. Stephen Ministry is a tool that God has blessed Immanuel to have to help those who are stuck in a fog of sin or despair to care for those who need an extra measure of God’s love and direction to be healed and be mentally and spiritually healthy. Thank you, Lord, for those you equip to care givers to those in need!

Oct 3 – 19th Sunday after Pentecost

Today we celebrate God’s gift of marriage and children. They are an image of God’s unfailing commitment to His people that is perfectly fulfilled in Christ Jesus. He is the groom that adores His bride, the Church, and lays down His life to make her holy, even when she has been terribly unfaithful. Divorce is not in our Lord’s vocabulary!

We also observe LWML Sunday and give thanks to God for raising up this auxiliary organization that helps support so many missions, outreach, and people in need all around the world.

Sept 26 – 18th Sunday after Pentecost

Have you ever been scandalized? That is caught in a sin or uncomfortable situation that made you wish you were somewhere far away? To Jesus, the scandal we are to avoid is causing others to sin. We often get comfortable with our sins and think we need not repent of them. But woe to those who think that way! Fortunately, the scandal of the cross is the way out and the way to forgiveness and right living.

Sept 19 – 17th Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost (Sept 19, 2021). God’s Word in the epistle of James is often hard to hear and understand. This is the result of our sin and inability to understand. So we need the Holy Spirit to enlighten our hearts and invigorate our lives that reflect the love of God who cares enough to take us aside once in a while in order to correct sinful behavior. This is the wisdom from above that pays dividends for eternity!

Sermon: “Teaching the Wisdom of Christ” – 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

The foolishness of God is that He would send us Jesus to suffer and die on the cross for all sinners. Well, it’s foolish to the world. But this is the wisdom of God that show us how much He has loved us! What a great gift that we share in our Lutheran school every day, and have done so for 100 years! Praise the Lord for His wisdom that truly saves!

Sept 5 – 15th Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost (September 5, 2021). Jesus heals a deaf and mute man by His word and touch. When the man realized what had happened, he praised God and told everyone he could. We also have been touched by Jesus in word and sacrament. We also get to praise God and tell everyone what He has done by His cross and resurrection!

August 29 – 14th Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost (August 29, 2021). God’s Word is simple instructions for life. The problem is that as sinners, we do not always listen, or do, or keep, or teach those instructions because we fail to understand them by God’s grace. But God Word also points us to the fulfillment of the Law in Christ Jesus who did keep God’s simple instructions in order to give us life!

August 22 – 13th Sunday after Pentecost

The Service for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost (August 22, 2021)

What traditions do you have? Some families and institutions are defined by their long-held traditions of eating, gathering, and celebrating. Tradition is good unless it becomes more important than God’s Word. Jesus confronts the traditions of men that have no place in the life of the Christian. But He does not leave us without hope. For in Him, we find a tradition to live by as we gather as God’s people have for generations around Word and Sacrament.
