June 26 – Third Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Third Sunday after Pentecost (June 26, 2022)

“Following Jesus” – Luke 9:51-62

Discipleship is the task of the Christian to give up the things of selfishness and wickedness in this world in order to live a holy life dedicated to God. But this is never easy. It is hard and scary at times. But our Lord does not let us do this alone. He is the perfect disciple that follows the will of God to save us. It costs Him His life on the cross, but His resurrection proves that discipleship is totally worth it. So, let us follow Jesus through this life as He leads us to everlasting life in heaven.

June 19 – Second Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Second Sunday after Pentecost (June 19, 2022)

“Jesus Comes to Save” – Luke 8:26-39

Jesus encounters a multi-demon possessed man and saves him in body, soul, and spirit, returning him to his right mind and back to civilization and gave him saving faith to know Jesus as his Savior. Where we give up, God does not for He desires all people to be saved. Sadly, fear of losing the things of this world, fearing evil (spirits, people, events, etc.), cripples our lives. Thanks be to God that Jesus still breaks the darkness to save us!

June 12 – Holy Trinity Sunday

The Divine Service for The Holy Trinity Sunday (June 12, 2022)

“Two Mysteries in One I AM” – John 8:48-59

This service is in praise to God for who He is that leads to what He does for us and all of fallen creation. The name of God is the focus of this day of the Holy Trinity – three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), yet one God. The Divine name of “I AM” that Jesus speaks is the revelation of the Son who is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. It’s a mystery that can only be grasped by faith. May God give you such faith to know Him and all that He does through the love of the Holy Trinity!

June 5 – The Ordination of PJ Aarsvold

The Service of the Rite of Ordination into the Office of the Holy Ministry for Paul “PJ” Aarsvold. Immanuel Lutheran Church humbly invites you to celebrate this special day in the life of the Church. From the Lutheran Service Book Agenda on the Rite of Ordination:

The Office of the Holy Ministry has been instituted by Christ Himself as a gift of His Church. Through the Christian congregation, as the holder of all churchly authority, God calls qualified men to fill this divinely established office and sends them as His ministers to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to administer the Sacraments publicly in the stead of Christ and by His command, with accountability both to God and to the Church. According to apostolic usage, ordination is the solemn, public confirmation of that call. (page 155)

June 5 – The Day of Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Feast of Pentecost (June 5, 2022)

“The Holy Spirit – The Helper” – John 14:23-21

Pentecost was an Old Testament feast that celebrated the first fruits of the spring harvest. God’s people were required by His Law to observe this feast by offering sacrifices at the temple in Jerusalem fifty days after the other required feast of Passover. This brings God-fearing Jews together where God now ushers in the New Testament Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit comes upon the disciples to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people. This same Spirit still descends upon people today in languages they understand to help them to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

May 29 – Seventh Sunday of Easter

The Divine Service for the Seventh Sunday of Easter (May 29, 2022)

“One in Christ” – John17:20-26

This final Sunday of the Easter season bridges the gap between Ascension and Pentecost. Jesus prays His High Priestly prayer just before going to Gethsemane for his betrayal and arrest, leading to His cross and tomb. With us in His mind, He prays that we would be one just as He and the Father are one. This oneness is a gift of God that overcomes the separation of sin that still plagues our lives. What a gift to be one with God and one with each other while we wait for His return!

May 15 – Fifth Sunday of Easter

The Divine Service for the Fifth Sunday of Easter (May 15, 2022)

“Sorrows and Joys in Jesus” – John 16:12-22

Jesus prepares His disciples for the sorrow of the cross and His innocent suffering and death. But sorrow will give way to joy on Easter morning. Christ is risen! But then Jesus says that He is going away for a little while. Sorrow. But He promises the Holy Spirit to bring the gifts of the cross and empty tomb to them and the whole Christian Church on earth while we wait for Jesus to return. Oh, the joy we have in Jesus!

May 1 – Third Sunday of Easter

The Divine Service for the Third Sunday of Easter (May 1, 2022)

“Worthy Is the Lamb!” – Revelation 5:8-14

Who is worthy of our worship and praise? The Lamb of God is! Though He was slain for the sins of the world, He now lives triumphant and receives heavenly worship. Yet He still comes among us even though we are unworthy sinners. His sacrifice allows us to be declared worthy of God’s love and mercy. Therefore, we can join the saints and angels in their heavenly worship as join in singing “Worthy is the Lamb!”
