Sept 4 – 13th Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost (September 4, 2022)

“Be a Hater?!?” – Luke 14:25-35

Jesus lays out some really strong language and impossible tasks for our life of discipleship. If left to us to count the cost of following Jesus, no one could ever be His disciple. Thanks be to God that the Law isn’t just what God expect of us, but also to show us what Jesus fulfilled for us and for our salvation!

August 28 – Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost (August 28, 2022)

“What Sacrifice Looks Like” – Hebrews 13:1-17

Sacrifice. God has commanded the life of His people to be one of sacrifice. What that looks like has changed because of Christ’s perfect sacrifice for us on His cross. What does God expect of His people today? A lot. But we are capable of offering a sacrifice pleasing to God because we have Christ on our side!

August 21 – Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost (August 21, 2022)

“The Narrow but Open Door” – Luke 13:22-30

Jesus lays down the truth of salvation. Those who try to find a back door into heaven won’t find it. Instead the narrow door will be closed and people will be begging to be let in. Yes, our Lord promises that He *has* opened the door and propped it open with His cross. Trust in the Lord and He will bring you through the narrow but open door!

August 14 – Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost (August 14, 2022)

“Pilgrims Who Persevere” – Hebrews 12:1-13

Many thanks to Pastor John Fuchs, Emeritus, for preaching for Pastor Augustine again for this service. As Christians, we life by faith, not by sight, in this ever changing world. By God’s grace, we persevere as Christ did for us and our salvation. Jesus endures the cross for our sins. So let us continue in the strength and confidence the Lord provides to live the love He has bestowed upon us!

Due to video volunteers on vacation, this week’s service is not available. The following video service is from LCMS-based “Main Street Living” with the Rev. Mark Meier from Messiah & Grace Lutheran Churches in La Crescent and Stockton, MN.

August 7 – Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost (August 7, 2022)

“Pilgrims By Faith” – Hebrews 11:8-16

Pastor John Fuchs, Emeritus, preaches for Pastor Augustine who is on vacation. The book of Hebrews is an amazing commentary on the Old Testament now fulfilled in Christ. Chapter 11 is known as the “great faith” chapter of the Bible. We hear of the example of Abraham and Sarah who were pilgrims to the land God would provide to them and their descendants. They lived by faith in God’s promises, and so do we. Life on this earth is but a pilgrimage to a better land; the land of heaven!

The Service of Matins + Holy Communion for the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost (July 24, 2022)

“Learning to Pray” – Genesis 18:17-33

Abraham prays. He shows us what persistent prayer looks like and how we also can approach our loving Father in heaven. There is a lot to the topic of prayer, so this service with touch on learning to pray as an attitude of the heart and an action of faith that trusts that God will save the righteous, those that believe in Him and the Son who enables our prayer.

The Service of Matins + Holy Communion for the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost (July 17, 2022)

“The Good Portion” – Luke 10:38-42

When we strive to love and serve God, we can still fall short of what God wants us to do. Mary and Martha are both doing good things, but one chooses the good portion by which the rest of her day will be blessed. May we also strive to choose the good portion of God’s Word and start our week with His blessing!

July 10 – Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost (July 10, 2022)

“Do This and You Will Live?!?!” – Luke 10:25-37

Can we actually be saved by keeping the Law? Yes, Jesus says. But just one failure in life results in death. The reality is that we cannot keep the Law. But Jesus, our Good Samaritan, not only keeps the Law for us, but now He shares that holiness with us by grace through faith.

July 3 – Fourth Sunday after Pentecost

The Divine Service for the Fourth Sunday after Pentecost (July 3, 2022)

“Why We Do What We Do” – Galatians 6:1-10, 14-18

The Church is called to be faithful to Christ Jesus, crucified and risen for us to lead us through this sinful world unto the glorious kingdom to come. This is our focus, but we often get distracted, frustrated, and worried when it seems that being faithful doesn’t produce the results we want. But, it does produce the results God wants. That’s why Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia, and to all churches of all time to keep Christ front and center of why we do what we do.
