The Divine Service for the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost (October 23, 2022)
“The Humbled are Exalted” – Luke 18:9-17
What do a Pharisee, tax collector, and little children have in common? All examples of God’s great reversal that is a theme that runs through Luke’s Gospel. Those who humbly come before God by faith receive God’s mercy and are lifted up – exalted over their lowliness. But the prideful, self-exalted will be brought down and humbled because of their lack of faith and mercy towards God and their neighbor. May we have a childlike faith that will trust in God to save us!
