Pastors' Page
Greetings:

Immanuel (translation: God with us) has been the name of our congregation for more than 125 years, ever since those first German Lutheran settlers came out to this green prairie with its plain view, and established an Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession.  God has been with us through the faithful preaching and teaching of this Holy Word.  God has been with us through the frequent and regular giving and receiving of His Holy Sacraments:  Baptism and Communion, and God has been with us through the Christian stewardship, the witness and lives of His Holy people in this place, the members of Immanuel.  More than one and a quarter centuries of God with us through Word and Sacraments, declaring and making us His holy people.  Holy, not because of us, or our works or merits, but holy because of God's grace, though faith in Jesus, as His gift to us.  So, as you browse this site, praise God for making each of us His holy people.

"You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God.
"
        - 1 Peter 2:9,10

"... 'and he will be called Immanuel (meaning, God is with us).' "
        - Matthew 1:23

Blessings to God's Holy people,

Dear Family of God:

All of us are one family, united together in Christ.  May you find in this site, encouragement to seek to know our family better.  Together we serve Christ here at Immanuel (God with us).  Each of us has been given a ministry to reach out to one another and our community.  We reach out with  God's  love, by His Spirit, according to His Word.  May God continue to bless Immanuel, as each of us lets His Word dwell in us richly, while reaching out to others.

Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Scott Hirssig

Media Watch

Subject:  Movies - The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass
, a "children's" movie released in December 2007, is based on Phillip Pullman's book trilogy, which expounds atheism and secular humanism, where, in the end, the children kill God, and everyone can do as they please.  This premise is the polar opposite of C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia.  The movie is dumbed down, so to speak, apparently to appeal to children and promote sales of the trilogy of books.  This is a movie review that you won't get from the secular media.

A Different Kind of Drug Problem...

The other day, someone at a store in our town had read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county, and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"
However, I replied, " I had a 'drug' problem when I was young.  I was 'drug' to church on Sunday morning.  I was 'drug' to church for weddings and funerals.  I was 'drug' to family reunions and community socials, no matter the weather!"
"I was 'drug' by my ears when I was disrepectful to adults.  I was also 'drug' to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, spoke ill of the teacher or preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everyting that was aked of me."
"I was 'drug' to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.  I was 'drug' out to the pull weeds in mom's garden.  I was 'drug' to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard."
"Those 'drugs' are in still in my veins, and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say or think.  They are stronger than cocaine, crack or heroin, and, if today's children had this kind of 'drug' problem, America would be a better place."

God bless the parents who "drugged" us. - Author Unknown
